St Cecilia’s CE Primary School Welcomes New Headteacher

Jun 1 2026

The Keys Academy Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Matt Lappin as the new Headteacher of St Cecilia’s Church of England Primary School.

Mr Lappin joins St Cecilia’s from Burghfield St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, where he has served as Deputy Headteacher. During his time there, he has played a significant role in curriculum innovation, staff development and whole‑school improvement. His leadership experience spans EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, giving him a well‑rounded understanding of primary education and the needs of pupils across all phases.

In appointing Mr Lappin, the Trust and Governing Body were particularly impressed by both his professional expertise and his personal passions, which align strongly with the ethos and identity of St Cecilia’s.

A committed advocate for music, musical theatre and the creative arts, Mr Lappin brings a wealth of experience that reflects the school’s dedication to creativity and its proud connection to St Cecilia, the patron saint of music. Mr Lappin firmly believes in the power of the arts to inspire confidence, self‑expression and joy in children, and is excited to continue strengthening this distinctive aspect of the school’s culture.

Mr Lappin is also a highly experienced leader in sport and physical education, previously heading whole‑school P.E. and developing a range of innovative physical‑activity and wellbeing initiatives. His passion for promoting active, healthy lifestyles and for ensuring every child has the opportunity to participate and succeed will further enrich the school’s holistic approach to education.

Speaking about his appointment, Mr Lappin shared his excitement: I am honoured to join St. Cecilia’s and I look to build on the strong foundations established by Mr. Thomas and The Keys Academy Trust. St. Cecilia’s has a thriving and nurturing environment for pupils and staff alike, and I look forward to seamlessly transitioning the school into its next exciting chapter.

The Keys Academy Trust has enjoyed getting to know Matt over the last few weeks and is delighted to formally welcome him to St Cecilia’s today.  We are confident he will bring warm, purposeful and inspiring leadership to the next chapter of the school’s development.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Mr Lappin and look forward to the positive impact he will have on the entire St Cecilia’s community.
